What G.R.A.C.E. Means to Me | Participant Story

Real People. Real Stories. Real Solutions.

I was referred to Community Rebuilders because my family was in a housing crisis, in part due to abuse at the hands of my significant other. I had left and was in hiding. My daughter and I had been staying a night here and a night there, staying with friends and family with no permanent place to stay. I was also pregnant during this time and unable to take my medications, so I was struggling with a lot of depression and felt very alone.

During the first meeting with my Solution Specialist I shared my problems and ongoing health issues. I also shared some of the issues my teenage daughter was facing. My Solution Specialist told me about the G.R.A.C.E. Network. After hearing more about what services were being offered, I found it became easier to talk about what I felt my family needed. One of my biggest concerns was finding counseling for my daughter. My Solution Specialist was able to refer my daughter and me to mental health resources through the G.R.A.C.E. Network and we were both able to get connected to a counselor. I was also able to work with the Community Food Club. It’s a great place with friendly staff, where I could get healthy food for my family.

“With my family’s health and food needs met I felt like a weight was lifted.”

Since working with my Solution Specialist at Community Rebuilders I have found an apartment that I love! I feel safe in my neighborhood. I have had my baby and I’m back on my medications and feeling so much better. I have even found a new job! I recently met with my Solution Specialist again and we talked about where I was at when I first started working with Community Rebuilders and where I’m at now. My needs are different now and we set new goals. My Solution Specialist again was able to direct me to community resources that will help support my higher education and employment goals. I am so thankful for the support of Community Rebuilders and the resources that have been made available to my family through the G.R.A.C.E. Network!
